The culture and customs of the people of Ras Al Khaimah are built around the emirate’s heritage as a port town on the western tip of the Musandam Peninsula (Ras Al Khaimah translates from the Arabic as "Top of the Tent"). Historically Ras Al Khaimah was known for its pearling industry as well as for date farming, shipbuilding and falconry.
